Maya Grab v0.2.0 (alpha)

Maya Grab is a text adventure game for the Commodore 64, developed by Thomas Langenkamp and published by a german digital magazine Input-64 (Issue 7/1986). The player needs to find the treasure of Maya which is hidden very close; closer than you think. The game begins in a house.

It’s written in BASIC and recompiled to prevent seeing the actual listing and solution for the game. The game features PETSCII graphics, with some additional help with sprites, a very basic command interpreter and no music or sound effects (except when typing). The whole game is also not so complex, it consists of 15 rooms, and the tricky stuff is achieved by doing right things in right rooms at specific time.

The remake was developed on a emulated Commodore 64 in one and a half month. Some routines needed to be written in assembler (using cross dev tools) mainly to speed up rendering some elements in the game. More details how the remake was made can be found in the development journal; source code is included.

The game is available in german and english.
